Nothing marks the end of summer like the start of harvest veggie season (Well, I'm in denial about the cold weather.)  Although summer is almost over, the season of sweet veggies is just beginning.  Our friend invited us to join her at the Corn and Tomato festival at Verrill Farm and how could we say no? The sale was easy: all-you-can-eat freshly picked tomatoes and ears of corn.  This was a no gimmick festival: no corn maze, no rides, and no vender hawking cheese samples or jams.  The focus was the corn and tomatoes.

The farmers lined the festival tables with bowls of tomatoes and corn.  We were allowed to eat at much as we wanted.  We sampled over 10 varieties of tomatoes (with names like Persimmon and Peach), and 6 types of sweet corn.

There is no better tomato than a perfectly ripe one, plucked fresh from the vine.  There was not a single ugly duck in the pond.

I, of course, slathered my corn in butter and salt.  Can't wait to go again next year.
